Ricky Ponting – The most successful captain ever in the World Cricket

Ponting’s notably with emotion, as he called time on a magnificent seventeen year long career in Perth.  The 37-year-old announced his decision to retire at the end of the third Test match against South Africa. But he will play for Tasmania and be Hobart Hurricanes this season in the Big Bash League, Australia’s domestic T20 tournament. He failed in Brisbane and Adelaide against South Africa, scoring 0, 4, and 16.

His sparkling career saw him stack up an excess of records, right from leading Australia to two World Cup titles in 2003 and 2007 the only cricketer to do so. He is also the second highest scorer, after Sachin Tendulkar in Tests and ODI’s.

England pulled back to 1-1 in a four-Test series when they breezed to a ten-wicket success on the fourth morning of the Mumbai Test. It was a victory which will have roused England's self-belief in Asia and which brought into question India's entire move toward for the series of relying on turning tracks, leaving them with much to consider ahead of the third Test in Kolkata next week.

India's slow bowlers had been performed by their England complement, with Monty Panesar and Graeme Swann ultimate with 19 wickets in the match in favourable conditions they hardly ever experience. Panesar's match return was 11 for 210, Swann 8 for 113, but the Test had twisted on an attacking century from Kevin Pietersen.

Injury that has lined James Pattinson out for the rest of the Test summer was so sharp that after bowling on the third day in Adelaide. As had been widely feared on second test the results of scans have established that Pattinson will miss a large piece of the home Tests for the second successive summer, having suffered a serious foot injury in January during the series against India.

Australia's players concerned for Pattinson's welfare when he left the field after bowling seven deliveries with the second new ball. In expected manner for a fast bowler, Pattinson felt the harsh pain during his first over with the new ball but ignored it in the hope that he would be able to keep going, but the first ball of his second over will be the final one he delivers in Tests this summer.

100 th test for Sehwag - King of India

India's success in the opening Test in Ahmedabad went perfectly to plan. England capitulated against India's spinners, just as everybody alleged they might, and even Alastair Cook's superbly defiant hundred after England follow on had the air of a new Test captain merely wait the predictable. It will all deepen the confidence that India is strong favorites in this four-Test series, balanced to avenge their thrashing in England last summer.

Virender Sehwag would have liked nothing better than to move from 94 Tests to 100 with a six. Instead, he got there in rough fashion, with only one half-century in 10 knocks until his career-affirming hundred in Ahmedabad. No Test batsman carries out more daringly or with such a neat method. Attention will be on him even more than usual.

India has comprehensively beat England in the first Test at Ahmedabad to set the manner for the series. While England was always going to find it tough in India, the home side had their fair split of problems and a number of queries to answer. With an incredible win under the belt, the Indians would move into the second Test a confident part.

The Test match started off on a very encouraging note for the Indians with the opening partnership doing well. The form of Gautam Gambhir and Virender Sehwag was a cause of concern in the lead-up to the series. However, Sehwag formed a sparkling hundred an effort that had shades of caution and his typical attack. Gambhir, on the other hand, was calm and looked keen to spend time in the middle. Cheteshwar Pujara is moving from strength to strength and has carried on from where he left off against New Zealand.

The rains have give in somewhat since the end of the ODI series, but during the heavy rain that only means that the showers have been limited to the afternoons in Galle. Sri Lanka will want nothing less than a 2-0 repeat of New Zealand's last Test tour, and their method for success in Galle has been a simple one over the years: bat first, bat big, and then let the spinners loose on one of the fastest-wearing Test surfaces anywhere.

Two teams have a swing of Test specialists arriving, and with Thilan Samaraweera and Prasanna Jayawardene strengthen Sri Lanka's middle order; New Zealand's bowlers will know they are no longer in front of the top heavy batting unit they were up against in the limited-overs matches.

Rain might have definite the cricket so far, yet, with two games to go, the series is placed as expected. New Zealand's batsmen have battled to good scores in two battle matches, but the kiwis find themselves on the brink of a series defeat one time more. New Zealand have also know about Sri Lanka batting order, but they are up till now to send away all three of Sri Lanka's innings

Angelo Mathews proved with a dazzling 47-ball 54 not out, the middle order is by no means an easy victory either. The visitors would do well not to jettison the conservative batting strategy that has seen them post competitive totals, but the bowlers must exploit the movement afforded them by the damp conditions to incite the top order collapse they have been aiming for.

All around 15 years, there was huge categorize to Test cricket. Australia was the undisputed kings and the rest of the world was left to clash it out for the slight placings. In little over 12 months, three different sides have held the No.1 ranking, with the earlier two incumbents conceding their crowns in humble fashion.

India were whitewashed 4-0 in England, with Andrew Strauss's men then suffering a turbulent year at the top which was ended with defeat by the impressive South Africa. The way in which the South Africa hammered England optional the rightful kings now sit on the throne. A record of only one series defeat in 20 and the fact they are unbeaten away since 2006 give the statistics to prove their status.

That was likely that the rain which has been following this series would soon compel a result under the Duckworth-Lewis method. That is what happened when the second ODI of the five-match series was determined in favour of the hosts 22.5 overs into Sri Lanka chase.

New Zealand, who have now lost eight of their previous nine ODIs, had reason to feel a touch hurt, having taken Tillakaratne Dilshan's wicket a few overs back to break a rising partnership with Mahela Jayawardene. Sri Lanka was still 133 runs drifting of the target of 251, but in the final count, they had stayed comfortably ahead of the D/L mark of 104.
