Even as the rest of the country continual to celebrate Saturday night’s historic win at the Wankhede Stadium, the victorious Indian team led by Mahendra Singh Dhoni was felicitated by President Pratibha Patil at the Raj Bhavan here today. While Prime Minister Manmohan Singh also congratulated Dhoni on the dazzling victory, many state governments announced cash prizes and plots of land for various team members. But for the cricketers themselves, the top priority, for the moment, seems to be spending time with their families.

The newly-crowned world champions have even decided to opt out of the expected open-top bus victory parade, preferring to spend some time with their loved ones instead. When the Indian cricket team returned to Mumbai after their last world title the inaugural World Twenty20 which was also won under Dhoni’s leadership in South Africa in September 2007 thousands of people lined up on the streets to catch a peep of their heroes, who were paraded in an open-top bus in a victorious procession from the airport to Wankhede Stadium. But that will not be frequent this time.
