Third ODI - Preview

Australia has 2-0 lead in their series against Sri Lanka, and they have won both the games in the 5 match series. Sri Lanka host Australia in the third ODI at Hambantota on Tuesday and will hope to get back on the winning ways to stay alive in the Test series. Sri Lanka's batting has struggled in both the matches, which is a shock given that Australia has relied on their pace bowlers to get the better of the home team.

Scores of 191 and 208 in the two matches have allowed Australia to bat without the pressure of having to score of every bowler and in turn, the likes of Ajantha Mendis and Lasith Malinga have been handled with ease. Batting of Ricky Ponting, who has looked phenomenal after stepping down from his captaincy. There was a 53 in the first game. Ponting changed that with an unbeaten 90 in the second ODI.

On the other hand, there have only been some periodic batting performances by the Lankan side with the bat. The problem that they have obviously got is with their inabilities to change starts into something significant – both the openers, T Dilshan and Upul Tharanga have thrown things away.
