Germany's Florian Mayer claimed his first ATP World Tour title by thrashing Pablo Andujar 6-3 6-1 in the final of the BDR Nastase Tiriac Trophy in Bucharest. Second seed Mayer has lost his earlier four Tour finals but saw off Andujar, who had knocked out top seed Juan Ignacio Chela in the semi-finals, in 72 minutes. There were three breaks of serve in the first seven games, before Mayer won eight straight games for a 5-0 lead in the second set.
Mayer is the ninth first-time ATP World Tour title winner of the year. Andujar, who lost to Chela in last year's final, won his first ATP World Tour title in April at the Grand Prix Hassan II in Casablanca. In the men's doubles final Italians Daniele Bracciali and Potito Starace beat Julian Knowle (Austria) and David Marrero (Spain) 3-6 6-4 10-8.
