Top seed Nicolas Almagro crashed out of the Malaysian Open in Kuala Lumpur at the hands of Kei Nishikori. The Japanese eighth seed refused to give in after losing the first set, battle back to shock the Spaniard 6-7 (5/7) 6-4 6-4 and go forward to the last four of an ATP Tour event for the fourth time this season. Nishikori will face third-seeded Serbian Janko Tipsarevic in the last four after Nikolay Davydenko retired in the early on their quarter-final.
Tipsarevic was 3-1 up in the first set when the fifth-seeded Russian was compulsory to pull out with a left hip problem."I don't know what the injury is accurately yet," Davydenko told. "I'm a bit afraid as I've never had anything like it before."I will still go to Beijing, maybe wait a few days and see what the pain is like. It's a shame. The second semi-final will be between Marcos Baghdatis and Viktor Troicki after both enjoyed straight-sets triumph in the Malaysian capital. Cypriot wild card Baghdatis distress fourth-seeded Austrian Jurgen Melzer 6-3 7-6 (7/3), while second-seeded Serbian Troicki overcame seventh-seeded Russian Dmitry Tursunov 6-4
