Bangladesh pulls off a sensational win against with Sri Lanka in the sixth and final round robin match of the Asia Cup 2012 with a five-wicket win at Shere Bangla National Stadium in Mirpur. Bangladesh reaches the winning target of 212 runs in 37 overs losing only five wickets.


The win sealed Bangladesh’s spot at the final against with Pakistan, their first at a Asia Cup competition while Sri Lanka for the first time in its history had to bow out of without reaching the final along with defending champions India.SriLanka has won the Asia Cup

for four times and has ended six times as runners-up in the total of ten Asia Cup tournaments.


Their dismal form in the ongoing competition earlier forced them an early quit but India was shocking defeat against with Bangladesh, who also managed to beat the Islanders today, gave them a slim hope of which entering at the final depending on the outcome.


The rain affecting the crucial game, Bangladesh were given a revised target of 212 runs from 40 overs and they too faced the similar setback as their opponents, losing three wickets for a total of 40.But solid knocks by opener Tamim Iqbal and Shakib Al Hasan, who added 76 runs for the third wicket put Bangladesh back in a fine position for chase the required target.


Iqbal clobbered 59 runs off 57 balls within nine fours and Hasan continued his batting prowess in their competition with yet another entertaining 56 which came in just 46 balls inclusive of seven fours.After both their rescuers were sent back by Sri Lankan bowlers, Nasir Hossain and Mahhmadullah ensured Bangladesh reach the target without much trouble.


Earlier Sri Lanka were invited by Bangladesh to bat first face a miserable setback when they lose three of their top batsmen, Mahela Jayawardena, Kumar Sangakkara and TM Dilshan when the total was just 32 in the tenth over.All the three top class of SriLankan batsmen are victimized by fast bowler Nazmul Hossain who finished with figures of 3 for 32.


But a patience knock at 62 runs off 92 balls by Chamara Kapugedara and two identical 48s by Lahiru Thirimanne and Upul Tharanga took Sri Lanka to a respectable total as they were bowled out in 232 runs with in a delivery to spare.


Kapugedara who has also played four elegant boundaries was well supported by Thirimanne who has scored his 48 off 73 balls inclusive of three boundaries.In contrast Tharanga just faced 44 balls to his 48 with five fours and a six.Abdur Razzak and Shakib Al Hasan which took two wickets each.
