With the series at chance, West Indies saved face with a four-wicket win in Mirpur, locate up by the spinners and a peaceful century by Marlon Samuels. West Indies were set 228, not an intimidating target, but with their current batting collapses and fight back against spin, a comeback win for the visitors couldn't be taken for granted.

The spinners created chance and closed the opening between the two sides towards the end, but Samuels was the wicket Bangladesh wanted. They out him, but a little too late, as West Indies were simply six away from success with four overs to spare.

Bangladesh recorded their biggest win in ODIs by biggest margin of run difference, beating a powerless West Indies by 160 runs to take a 2-0 lead and are in key position to state the five-match series. The spinners delivered for the second game in series, but Bangladesh owed their early dominance in this match mainly to Anamul Haque, who became the third youngster from the country to score an ODI century, and Mushfiqur Rahim for propelling them to 292.

West Indies choose to bowl first, primarily to squeeze out as many wickets from the starting. As it transpired, batting appeared twice as tough with the emotional setback of chasing 293 against a four-pronged spin attack that had rendered the match a no-contest even before the halfway stage of the chase. Ravi Rampaul's 5 for 49 was a best highlight in this match.

Gazi took 4-29, the best figures by a Bangladesh bowler on one-day debut, to restrict the West Indies to 199 after they won the toss and opted to bat. Iqbal and Anamul Haque put on a solid 88-run opening stand to make sure the hosts, who were absent key all-rounder Shakib Al Hasan through injury, did not ruin the good work by their bowlers.

Bangladesh 135 for 7 (Rahim 41*, Samuels 2-14) beat West Indies 132 for 8 (Samuels 58, Shafiul 2-19, Shakib 2-25) by three wickets

Mushfiqur Rahim cracked a six off the one before the last ball to give Bangladesh side a dramatic three-wicket victory over West Indies in their Twenty20 clash. The home side needed four to win off the final two balls, but new skipper, Mushfiqur decided to fasten the success in style to complete a perfect captaincy debut. After winning the toss and electing to field, Mushfiqur saw his bowlers restrict West Indies to 132 for eight from their 20 overs.

Lendl Simmons and Adrian Barath got the visitors off to a decent start, making 25 runs before Barath was dismissed from the second ball of the third over. That brought Marlon Samuels to the crease and he was active in ensuring his side had a sensible total to defend. As wickets fell around him - Simmons and Denesh Ramdin the only other batsmen to reach double figures - Samuels made 58 from 42 balls, including four sixes, before dismissing in the penultimate over.

In reply, Bangladesh made a good start and had reached 49 for one before Imrul Kayes was dismissed from the final ball of the seventh over. Samuels dismissed Mohammad Ashraful on his way to figures of two for 14 where six runs were required off the last over. Nasir Hossain edged behind attempting an extravagant stroke from the third ball, but after Abdur Razzak scrambled a single, Mushfiqur held his courage to fasten Ravi Rampaul for a huge six over deep midwicket.

Bangladesh's strength at home is based on the value of their spinners on slow, turning tracks. West Indies, though, might not find the conditions as alien as sides like New Zealand and Zimbabwe. The pitches in the Caribbean of late have often resembled subcontinent ones and four of West Indies' batsmen will come to Bangladesh directly from having played for Trinidad & Tobago in the Champions League Twenty20 in India.

West Indies do not have Sunil Narine or Samuel Badree, who were so successful for T&T in Indian conditions, in their squad, but the presence of Devendra Bishoo and Andre Russell, who bowls a good slower ball, means they have an attack that can adapt to the conditions. They recognized their status as favourites by winning both their practice matches against a strong BCB XI outfit, one through a strong bowling performance and the other through a century from Marlon Samuels.

For Bangladesh, a Twenty20 international is the last way they would want to start a comeback. They have only played 16 in their history and their last T20 win came way back in 2007. For West Indies, Twenty20 represents all that is right and wrong with their cricket. A shock win in England, and T&T's eye-catching performance in the CLT20 imply this might in fact be the format in which West Indies see most success in the near future.
