Rohit Sharma hit an unbeaten 68 to help India to a relaxed four-wicket victory over West Indies in the first one-day international in Port of Spain. Sharma brought up his total off 75 balls as the tourists improved from a unsteady start to successfully chase down a weak Windies total of 214-9 with more than five overs in hand.

Ramnaresh Sarwan (56) and Marlon Samuels (55), who put on 82 for the fourth wicket, were the only batsmen to offer any important runs for the hosts, while Harbhajan Singh finished as the pick of either side's bowlers with 3-32.After the Windies had opted to bat, Kirk Edwards looked to get them off to a swift start with a boundary in the first over, but both openers would go on to struggle.

Lendl Simmons top-edged Praveen Kumar to Harbhajan for a laboured six and Darren Bravo followed the next over as Sharma made amends for an earlier drop to give Munaf Patel a deserved wicket. Edwards was dropped on 16 and 20 as he struggled with the spin of Amit Mishra and Harbhajan, but finally succumbed to the latter for 21 when he lofted the ball to Virat Kohli at slip.
