Dominika Cibulkova's planning for the US Open ended unexpectedly when she crashed out of the Texas Open in straight sets at the hands of Kateryna Bondarenko. The Slovakian player is seeded 14th for Flushing Meadows but she was widely beaten by her Ukrainian opponent, 6-3 6-1.
While Cibulkova served up five double faults, Bondarenko was far more victorious on her service points with the match only lasting one hour and two minutes. Anastasija Sevastova beat Sofia Arvidsson 7-6 (7/4) 6-4, Aravane Rezai had a 6-2 7-6 (7/4) triumph against Sorana Cirstea and Angelique Kerber enjoyed a 6-3 6-2 win over Melanie Oudin.
