Off spinner Nathan Lyon has been included at the expense of fast bowler Mitchell Starc in Australia's line-up for the fourth Test against India starting on Tuesday. Starc was one of a group of four quicks selected for the third Test in Perth, where the Australians won by an innings and 37 runs in two-and-a-half days to take a 3-0 lead in the four-match series. Peter Siddle, Ben Hilfenhaus and Ryan Harris, all more skilled quick bowlers than 21-year-old Starc, have kept their places in an otherwise unchanged side for the match.
Starc has been named Australia's 12th man and will expected be released to play for the Sydney Sixers against the Perth Scorchers in Saturday's final of the Twenty20 Big Bash League. Captain Michael Clarke said Australia had selected what they considered their best XI for usually batsman-friendly conditions at the Adelaide Oval and were determined to complete a 4-0 sweep of the Test series.
"We think that is the best XI to give us every chance to win this Test match," Clarke said. "I think the experience of the other three quicks will play a big part in these conditions." "The wicket looks really good and I think reverse swing is going to play a huge part in this Test match." Conditions at the Adelaide Oval are expected to be more favorable to batting than the lively wicket at the WACA, with spin coming into play later in the test.
Australia squad: Ed Cowan, David Warner, Shaun Marsh, Ricky Ponting, Michael Clarke (captain), Mike Hussey, Brad Haddin, Peter Siddle, Ryan Harris, Ben Hilfenhaus, Nathan Lyon. 12th man: Mitchell Starc.
