The rains have give in somewhat since the end of the ODI series, but during the heavy rain that only means that the showers have been limited to the afternoons in Galle. Sri Lanka will want nothing less than a 2-0 repeat of New Zealand's last Test tour, and their method for success in Galle has been a simple one over the years: bat first, bat big, and then let the spinners loose on one of the fastest-wearing Test surfaces anywhere.

Two teams have a swing of Test specialists arriving, and with Thilan Samaraweera and Prasanna Jayawardene strengthen Sri Lanka's middle order; New Zealand's bowlers will know they are no longer in front of the top heavy batting unit they were up against in the limited-overs matches.

Rain might have definite the cricket so far, yet, with two games to go, the series is placed as expected. New Zealand's batsmen have battled to good scores in two battle matches, but the kiwis find themselves on the brink of a series defeat one time more. New Zealand have also know about Sri Lanka batting order, but they are up till now to send away all three of Sri Lanka's innings

Angelo Mathews proved with a dazzling 47-ball 54 not out, the middle order is by no means an easy victory either. The visitors would do well not to jettison the conservative batting strategy that has seen them post competitive totals, but the bowlers must exploit the movement afforded them by the damp conditions to incite the top order collapse they have been aiming for.

Watling missed his century by four runs but go back to the pavilion with a spring in his step after push New Zealand to a spirited total in difficult circumstances, with rain restrain the game to 33 overs a side. Tillakaratne Dilshan not only passed three figures, but also makes sure Sri Lanka passed the finish line without panic in a controlled chase.

New Zealand had scored 188, but the target was revised to 197. The chase began confidently with Dilshan. A century for Watling seemed a possibility but he lost strike after the third ball in the final over. New Zealand had made enough to set Sri Lanka a necessary rate of just under a run-a-ball, but Dilshan and Mathews developed the issue with nearly two overs to spare and give Sri Lanka an unquestionable 2-0 lead.

That was likely that the rain which has been following this series would soon compel a result under the Duckworth-Lewis method. That is what happened when the second ODI of the five-match series was determined in favour of the hosts 22.5 overs into Sri Lanka chase.

New Zealand, who have now lost eight of their previous nine ODIs, had reason to feel a touch hurt, having taken Tillakaratne Dilshan's wicket a few overs back to break a rising partnership with Mahela Jayawardene. Sri Lanka was still 133 runs drifting of the target of 251, but in the final count, they had stayed comfortably ahead of the D/L mark of 104.

Sri Lanka Cricket has moved the second and third ODIs in the series against New Zealand from the Premadasa Stadium to the Pallekele, because the Premadasa is under water after three weeks of monsoon rain. Bad weather is forecast for together venues over the next two days, but it is probable to obvious in time for the second ODI.

The matches will be played on November 4 and 6 as planned."The lake near the Premadasa Stadium has risen significantly due to rain and the water isn't difficult away from the ground," SLC chief executive Ajit Jayasekara said. "We had sent out a letter to Ten Sports and New Zealand Cricket clearing up the condition, and alerting them to the possibility of a venue change."

New Zealand's welcome on their tour of Sri Lanka was cold and rainy, as the hosts' seamers left their batting in disarray on a stop-start evening spoiled by heavy showers that in the end sealed the game's fate. Sri Lanka had kept New Zealand to 74 in an already shortened fixture; the rain again caused an break that proved terminal.

In his first match as Sri Lanka's new T20 captain, Angelo Mathews hoped for some help for his bowlers in wet circumstances and he wasn't disappointed. The regulation with which his bowlers bowled in the first half of the innings set up the game for Sri Lanka.
